BASIX Consulting and Training Services derive their capability and ethos from the business model followed by BASIX and primarily draws on the experiences and expertise of BASIX across all group companies and specialties. It is now bringing in international best practices in its working. BASIX Consulting focuses mainly on providing advisory services, capacity building and institutional development services and project design & support services to International development agencies, Government agencies, Corporates, NGOs, Community Organisations, Banks and Microfinance Institutions.

  • Mr. Vijay Mahajan



  • vijaymahajan Mr. Vijay Mahajan is the Founder and Chairman of the BASIX Group. Vijay is a distinguished alumnus of both the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (1970-75) and the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (1979-81) and was a mid-career fellow at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public International Affairs, Princeton University, USA. Vijay co-founded Professional Assistance for Development Action (PRADAN) in 1983, Sa-Dhan in 1998, Andhra Pradesh Mahila Abhivrudhi Society (APMAS) in 2000 and Microfinance Institutions Network (MFIN) in 2009. In 1995, Vijay conceptualised BASIX as a “new generation livelihood promotion institution” and it was set up in mid 1996. Vijay served on the Rangarajan Committee on Financial Inclusion and the Raghuram Rajan Committee on Financial Sector Reforms. Vijay co-authored a book "The Forgotten Sector" and has written over 75 articles. Vijay serves on the Boards of major Indian development organisations and has been a member of various committees set up by Government and Regulatory institutions. Vijay is the Chair of the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP), a global microfinance forum, comprising nearly 40 bilateral, multilateral and foundations in development.

  • Mr. B L Parthasarathy



  • B L parthasarathy Mr. B L Parthasarathy holds M.Sc. (Agriculture) from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University TNAU and Post-Graduation Diploma in Management (PGDM) from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. Mr Parthasarathy is an expert in the field of rural development, rural finance and microfinance. Mr Parthasarathy has earlier worked with Syndicate Bank, Action Aid, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and BASIX. Mr Parthasarathy was also the Managing Director of Krishna Bhima Samruddhi Local Area Bank Ltd, a subsidiary of BASIX from the year 2005 to 2008. Mr. Parthasarathy is currently functioning as the Managing Director of BASIX Consulting and Training Services.

  • Dr. SL Narayana



  • Dr. SL Narayana Dr. SL Narayana PhD in Macro-Monetary Economics and started his career as Economic Analyst in Reserve Bank of India’s Department of Economic Analysis and Policy and Andhra Bank as Economist. Dr Narayana was on the Senior Management Staff of Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI) and ICFAI Business School (IBS) and Managing Editor of the ICFAI Journal of Applied Finance during 1994-96. Before joining BASIX, Dr Narayana was on UNDP-funded assignments for a decade as Associate Professor of Economics at Mekelle University, Mekelle, Ethiopia, initiated for setting up of Microfinance Program. Dr Narayana was Editor, Microfinance Development Review and African Journal of Microfinance during 2003-08 and Resource Person for the Association of Ethiopian MFIs (AEMFI), the networking institution, Addis Ababa. Joined BASIX in 2007, Dr Narayana is the Director of the BASIX Academy for Livelihoods and MicroBanking Practice (B-A-LAMP), Division of BASIX Consulting and Training Services Ltd.

  • Mr. Arijit Dutta



  • Mr. Arijit Dutta  Mr. Arijit Dutta is the Managing Director of BASIX Krishi Samruddhi Ltd. Arijit has over 25 years of experience in the development sector with reputed national and international organizations. Arijit’s key skills include programme design, implementation and evaluation, and analysis of policies and institutional strategies in rural livelihoods, institutional development, micro finance and natural resource management. Arijit has been instrumental in experimenting business correspondent model with various banks and technology service providers, as part of BASIX Group initiative on financial inclusion. The different experiments being tried out, which resulted in enhancing the understanding and the skill sets to make the model a viable and feasible instrument of increasing financial services outreach. Arijit has been exposed to both working with cutting edge workers as well as senior and policy level professionals and institutions. Arijit studied Agricultural sciences and also attended the international training program on microfinance organised by Boulder Institute. Arijit also spearheaded the team for Study and design of irrigation finance with special emphasis on small & marginal farmers; Promoting large networks of Soy Producers.

  • Mr. ID Prasad Mr. ID Prasad has Post-graduation in Economics from one of the most reputed Indian Universities; Diploma in Management and Diploma in Marketing Management. Mr Prasad has over 40 years’ post-qualification experience in the areas of entrepreneurship development; cluster development; technology facilitation of small and medium enterprises; project appraisal; marketing research; export marketing and industry analysis with leading public sector consulting organizations and export development agencies in India. 15 years of proven track record in diagnosing key developmental issues, evolving and implementing market driven strategies for development of MSE clusters. Mr Prasad worked with Andhra Pradesh Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organisation Limited (APITCO) as Chief Consultant and Advisor for 17 years. Mr Prasad is currently engaged with Seamless Consultancy Services (Private) Limited as Director.

  • Mr. Ashok Kumar Singha



  • Mr. Ashok Kumar Singha Mr. Ashok Kumar Singha is a graduate in Agriculture and a postgraduate in Management, has over 20 years’ experience in Livelihood Enhancement, Micro-Finance, Sector Transformation, Public Enterprise Reform, Policy Research, Governance and Performance Improvement areas. Ashok has exposure to sector study, institutional analysis and capacity building at national and international levels. Ashok is one of the six governance consultants with DFID in India. An alumnus of Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar , Ashok has worked in Power Sector Reform (Orissa, AP, MP, UP), Public Enterprise Reform (in power sector, forestry sector, irrigation and water sectors), Decentralization and Participatory Governance (with Pani Panchayats, Water user Associations, Power User Associations, capacity building of NGOs, CBOs and municipalities). Ashok has worked extensively on climate change issues. Ashok is also co-author of a book titled The Forgotten Sector, with Thomas Fisher of New Economic Foundation and Mr. Vijay Mahajan, BASIX. Ashok has also contributed to the book Rural Electricity Governance (Academic Foundation). Currently, Ashok is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of C-TRAN Consulting Ltd, a company dedicated to the issues related to “Energy, Environment and Climate Change”. Ashok has also contributed to India Infrastructure Report (2009 and 2010) on issue related to land market and carbon market.
