BASIX Municipal Waste Ventures Ltd. (BMWV) are conducting integrated solid waste management including primary doorstep collection, sorting, recycling, and composting with various Urban Local Bodies and Resident Welfare Associations covering approximately 2,90,000 households. The waste management activity would be carried out by a model waste picker group trained by BMWV to provide efficient, timely and quality integrated solid waste management services to citizens. The benefits include averting 70 - 80% of garbage from the dumpsite and near perfect compliance with the Municipal Solid Waste Rules 2016. BMWV provide sustainable livelihoods to the most marginalized urban community of waste pickers, decrease general public exposure to 22 vector-borne illnesses from waste and reduce total Greenhouse Gases.

About BMWV

  • Incorporated in March 2012 after culmination of 4.5 years of action research work done by Indian Grameen Services and the experience gained from working in MP, AP and Bihar
  • The aim of the action research project was to establish an end to end waste management system working with multiple stake holders –households, rag-pickers, urban local bodies.
  • Follows MSW Rules 2016 of Solid Waste Management in India

Gram Vikas has received several national and international awards in recognition of their work, including the Allan Shawn Feinstein the World Habitat Award, 2003 and World Water Grand Prize, 2006, Joe Madiath was selected as outstanding social entrepreneur by Schwab Foundation, 2000 and by Skoll Foundation in 2006.

  • Mr Anoop Kaul Mr. Anoop Kaul , Director based in Delhi, is the National Head, Inclusive Growth Services, of BASIX Group. A post graduate from the Delhi School of Economics he worked with the State Bank of India for 35 years before joining BASIX in 2007. While in State Bank he held senior level positions in the State of Gujarat, Delhi, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Bank’s Central Office and has seen all aspects of banking and financial sector. He was also for 4 years in Govt. of Gujarat as OSD and Dy. Secretary in Industries, Mines and Power Department. Another 4 years stint was as CFO, in SBI Cards, a joint venture of SBI and GE Capital. In BASIX, as National Head of Financial Inclusion, he led the BASIX Team for the Rajasthan’s Bhamashah Women Empowerment Project in 2008 under which 4.1 million BPL families were enrolled for Financial Inclusion in just 60 days, then a global record. Since 2009, he has been overseeing the Common Services Centre Project of BASIX Group which runs 5000 plus outlets in 6 States of India. He is a Director on the Board of BASIX Academy for Building Lifelong Employability Ltd., Mera Gao Power and Vayam Renewable Ltd. as well as founder Member of the Governing Council of CSC Forum and Sahulat Microfinance Society. He has held Director-level positions in few companies in Gujarat and Maharashtra and also been visiting faculty to Administrative Staff College of India, IIM Lucknow, ICFAI Hyderabad and to Training Institutions of various Banks.

  • Mr. Arijit Dutta Mr. Arijit Dutta, Director Arijit has over 25 years of experience in the development sector with reputed national and international organizations. Arijit’s key skills include programme design, implementation and evaluation, and analysis of policies and institutional strategies in rural livelihoods, institutional development, micro finance and natural resource management. Arijit has been instrumental in experimenting business correspondent model with various banks and technology service providers, as part of BASIX Group initiative on financial inclusion. The different experiments being tried out, which resulted in enhancing the understanding and the skill sets to make the model a viable and feasible instrument of increasing financial services outreach. Arijit has been exposed to both working with cutting edge workers as well as senior and policy level professionals and institutions. Arijit studied Agricultural sciences and also attended the international training program on microfinance organised by Boulder Institute. Arijit also spearheaded the team for Study and design of irrigation finance with special emphasis on small & marginal farmers; Promoting large networks of Soy Producers.

  • Mr. Devarakonda Sattaiah Mr. Devarakonda Sattaiah, Director has over 24 years of experience including a tenure of 20 years with BASIX Group dealing with Microcredit and Micro Insurance Operations with nearly 2 million credit customers, USD 450 million in loans outstanding and over 3.8 million insurance covers. He has got track record of starting and expanding businesses. Managed the Human Resource function for the same company with over 8,000 people in hundreds of locations. Exposed to some of the best management education in the world at Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad and to all round leadership exposure that is unique to the BASIX Group. He comes with strong hold on operations process, mechanism, planning, tools and monitoring and mentoring practice. He served as Head of Human Resources (HR), Insurance Vertical, Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Director Strategic Products in Bhartiya Samruddhi Finance Limited. He comes with strong familiarity with the rural realities, dynamics and customer knowledge. He is a post graduate in Management with a bachelor degree in Maths, Physics and Chemistry from Osmania University, Hyderabad. He is the designated as Managing Director of Bhartiya Samruddhi Investments and Consulting Services Limited.
